We are looking for an Associate Data Scientist who will support our emerging analytical proposition with insights gained from analysing healthcare data. The ideal candidate is adept at both developing standalone statistical modelling products and performing data analysis as part of broader consulting projects. You will use large healthcare datasets already available to CF and seek out new data sources as needed for specific projects. Project timelines vary from weeks to months and your time may be divided between multiple projects simultaneously, with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be skilled in explaining your models and results to non-specialist colleagues and clients and enjoy working in fast moving teams.

Why choose CF?

A purpose you care about

Our purpose as a business is very clear. We exist to create opportunities for improved health and care for everyone. We do that by inspiring our clients to embrace change and innovation; by enabling them to become financially and operationally sustainable; by working with the most challenged to the highest performing organisations to improve patient care.

Ambition and values you share

We want to be a world-leading healthcare consulting and analytics company, which is only achievable with a team of trusted, talented and dedicated people who share our ambition and values. Our success is fully aligned with yours.

  • We are passionate about healthcare; driven by a deep commitment to improving and transforming health and care systems
  • We build trusted client relationships; supporting each other and becoming close advisors to our clients
  • We create possibilities; through our energy for change and the fresh perspective and pragmatic approach we offer
  • We respond with agility; meeting evolving needs and addressing complex challenges with flexibility
  • We are courageous; willing to do something different and stand up for what we believe in, at the same time having the humility to listen and learn

The role

As a data scientist at CF you will be expected to build predictive models using large healthcare data sets in order to improve healthcare in the UK and internationally. There is an opportunity to develop skills in back end engineering, systems architecture, product design and user interfaces.

As part of a consultancy, the Data Science and Analytics team provides machine learning and statistical solutions to client problems but also provides automation of analytical processes internally to improve efficiency. The work is varied and projects tend to last from a few weeks to 6 months and beyond, examples of recent work include

  • Building software to predict and manage patient flow in hospitals
  • Building a tool to help hospitals understand how changing services will impact patient travel times
  • Predicting COVID demand and capacity across hospitals in London
  • Creating new visualisation to understand the bottlenecks in outpatient clinical pathways
  • Automatically generating analysis suites for rapid diagnostics of geographic areas

We use Python and R for modelling, Javascript/Typescript for front ends, Airflow for orchestration, AWS for storage, GCP for serving but we are not wedded to anything and look forward to trying new technology as it becomes useful.  As a rule, we aim for understandable and parsimonious over the black box and complicated but that doesn’t mean there aren’t applications for deep learning where predictive accuracy is paramount.

You should be excited about the opportunity to apply your skills in a healthcare environment and make a real difference to healthy lives through evidence-based decision making.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area and 2+ years in a professional data science role or an advanced degree in a relevant area
  • Passion for the potential of data and analytics to help build the team and evangelise across Carnall Farrar
  • Have the right to work in the UK
