The King’s Speech is part of the State Opening of Parliament. It is written by the government, but delivered by the monarch. It sets out the government’s priorities for their time in the Parliament.
The 2024 King’s Speech was held on 17 July 2024 and opened the first session of the new parliament since the general election. The speech and accompanying memorandum included 40 bills, of which two were carried over from the previous parliamentary session.
