Careers fairs only come once a year; you need to make sure that you are making the most of the time you have on the day. We share our tips on what to ask at a careers fair when talking to a management consultancy firm

We attend careers fairs nationally and they provide a great opportunity for you to meet our staff and recruitment team.  We love it when people come prepared with questions and want to engage with us to find out what we are about.  We encourage you to ask our team questions so you can decide if CF is for you.

Five top tips for careers fairs:

1. Do your homework

Make sure you know who you want to talk to and what they do on a basic level, no point in spending time talking to a management consulting firm who specialises in engineering if you want to get into health.

2. Take an interest

When you know who you want to talk to, take some time to read a few articles on their website, then you can ask more focused questions.  Look at their social media profiles to get a feel for what they are talking about.

3. Talk to us

Everyone who attends graduate fairs is coming to give you the opportunity to find out if their values, culture and graduate programme is suitable for you.  Make sure you introduce yourself and ask open questions to ensure you get the most out of the time.

4. Plan your time

Some fairs only last a few hours so make sure you maximise your time, you don't want to try and rush through the last five minutes, trying to talk to your preferred employer.  Focus on prioritising which company you want to talk to, if one stand is really busy, consider talking to one of your other preferred employers.

5. Bring the best version of you

Consider what to wear - smart casual is usually the best option. Due to the number of students attending some employers will only be able to spend a short amount of time with you – make sure you are well prepared – be interested, engage and ask questions to ensure you gain the most from your time.

When you join any company, you want to know why they stand out in their marketplace.  At CF we are passionate about health and care, unlike other management consulting firms we specialize.  There are other firms out there who do healthcare consulting but ask us why we do it differently.

3. What would I be doing?

You might want to know what your roles and responsibilities would be. What does a typical week look like?  It helps give you a flavour of what to expect when you join up.  Everyone attending will have experienced working at different levels within CF and be happy to share their experience. What will you do as an analyst at CF?

4. What do you look for?

This question can help you in the application and interview process.  Ask what skills are advantageous in the role, what degrees do you look for, what level of degree do I need?
