On 23 December, NHS England (NHSE) released guidance on developing the joint forward plan (JFP) for systems, ahead of an April deadline.
NHSE’s guidance provides three principles for JFPs:
- Fully aligned with the wider system partnership’s ambitions
- Supporting subsidiarity by building on existing local strategies and plans as well as reflecting the universal NHS commitments
- Delivery focused, including specific objectives, trajectories and milestones as appropriate
The guidance sets out a flexible approach from NHSE on when JFPs must be published, with the deadline for final submissions set at the end of June 2023, three months after the official deadline.
