ABPI Pharma Impact Map
CF supported The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) in developing a tool that maps the impact of the biopharmaceutical industry at a local area, across the four nations. The aim was to quantify the industry’s impact at a local level, bringing together multiple sources of information to allows members of the public, policymakers and other interested groups to explore the contribution the industry makes to the UK economy and health system at a local level.
Our collaborative approach
The ABPI represents pharmaceutical companies of all sizes which invest in making and discovering medicines and vaccines to enhance and save the lives of millions of people around the world. The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and access medicines and vaccines to improve patient care.
Every day the ABPI and its members partner with healthcare professionals, policymakers, academics and patient organisations to find new solutions to unmet health need and support the growth of the industry in the UK. To do this effectively, the ABPI sought to showcase the local level impact of the biopharmaceutical industry. There are vast amounts of publicly available data regarding the industry’s contribution at a national, regional, and local level, but this can be hard to access, combine or visualise.
What did we do?
- Pulled data from various sources and constructed metrics to measure the impact of the biopharmaceutical industry across the UK.
- Quantified the industry’s impact in three key areas: the economy, NHS and industry collaborations, and research.
- Developed an interactive mapping tool with a postcode-level search function, enabling users to view the industry’s impact at a national, regional, and constituency level.
- Compiled this data and insights into a comprehensive resource to improve awareness and support informed policymaking among politicians, officials, healthcare leaders, and the general public.
Client Testimonial
“Our goal with this project was to make the data simple and interesting to view, so that policymakers, members of the public and other interested groups can understand more about the breadth and depth of the sector’s contribution to the UK’s economy and health systems. It has been brilliant working with the CF team on the Pharma Impact Map and we are looking forward to developing version two later in the year”
