On the 21 July 2023, the House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts published its report on the Progress in improving NHS mental health services.
NHS England (NHSE) has made progress in improving and expanding NHS mental health services over the last five years, particularly in treating more people and setting access standards, and the number of people treated by NHS mental health services has substantially increased. However, many issues persist, and there is still much to tackle.
The report sets out the challenges identified for mental health services. In response to these findings, it outlines a series of corresponding recommendations for the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) and NHSE to carry out before the next update to the Committee in six months’ time.
